Record Finder

Between March 2012 and May 2014 dozens of people wrote in to the Prison Public Memory Project website, a project I co-founded in 2011. They were – and are – looking for information on mothers, grandmothers, sisters and aunts; relatives who had been confined at the New York State Training School for Girls in Hudson New York that operated from 1904 till 1974. Each person was searching for a missing piece of family history. Incorrigibles is born out of these searches & the lives of these girls and women. To date, we’ve been able to provide “intake” information about many of the girls who were sent to the school. We are continuing to track down where other records are kept.

The web platform will provide assistance and resources for formerly incarcerated young women and their families in finding their own or a family member’s records. This area will include guidelines and the forms required to locate and reclaim their own institutional records.

The U.S. Census for 1940 revealed my mother’s name on the list and I would like to obtain
some information of her past. Growing up my mother never spoke about her past and neither
did my grandmother. There are things I would like to know.

I am also searching for a great grandmother.
She was said to give birth at the school in 1941.
I have names and dates and lots of clues just no solid documentation.
Has there been any website developed to locate people from the school?

If you are looking for information or records about a relative who was at the Training School please use the form below to get in touch with us. Please include as much information as you have i.e your or your relative’s name, dates there if known, etc.
